To regard with great respect or reverence

Where is the place you feel most at ease, cleansed, re-energized and free?

If it is a place you need to escape to, consider taking the qualities of the place that just came to mind and creating one at home.

Here is the essence of what makes a space sacred at home:

(Check out the complete free guide you can download at the end 🙂

Sacred Spaces are a
Private Sanctuary

Privacy is important, just like the sacred spaces we escape too – we often feel an element of peace and if the time, space and moment is uninterrupted by life’s static and noise.  Even if your space is shared or in the open you can choose a time and set a boundary during a specific time to enjoy the time and space to yourself.

Sacred Spaces with a Purpose

What is it that you need from this space?  Create your space with this in mind.  Are you looking for peace and relaxation?  Creativity and insight? A place to mediate or do yoga? Write or paint?  It can even be a place you do your work, garden, bathe or spend time as a couple.  What purpose will your space serve?

What is Sacred to You is a Personal Experience

Get personal with your space.  Define what sacred means to you.  You can do this by thinking of your favorite places and memories.  Are you inspired by spirituality, nature, beauty, art, music, photos of loved ones and reminders of happiness and joy.  Do you have a special mantra or affirmation that is meaningful to you or this time in your life?  Or do you need a wide open, clean space to clear your mind and soothe your soul.

Sacred Spaces Makes Sense

You can make your space a place that heightens your senses or cleanses them.  Meaning you can include sights that will delight you, sounds that will soothe or inspire you, smells that will relax or energize you and textures that stimulate or comfort you.  Or you can make your space absent of all these things to clear your mind and recharge your body.

“This is a place of creative incubation. At first you may find nothing happens there. But, if you have a sacred place, and use it, take advantage of it, something will happen” – Joseph Campbell

Sacred is Found in the Light, Shadows & the Dark

Choose the time of day that is also sacred to you, the time you need a jumpstart, or the most support, renewal or rest.  Check the space and the lighting at the time. Will you have natural sunlight or candlelight or any of the beautiful choices in between?

Sacred Connection & Comfort

What is it that will connect you with this space and make you want to spend time there?

Make the connection with this space by making it comfortable for whatever purpose it serves.  It can be beautiful but if you don’t have a place to sit, lie down or move comfortably you won’t be able to fully connect with your mind, body and spirit.

Sacred Energy & Emotion

Last but not least, you can create a beautiful space, but it’s not really sacred until you approach your space with sincerity and devotion. The energy and emotion you bring to your space is what will make it truly special and transformative.  Make a note to self:  leave all your baggage, stress and drama at the door and let it elevate you before you even enter your sacred space.

As promised, we created a free guide to help you create your sacred space at home.  It is full of ideas and inspiration as well as examples you can borrow from. You can download your copy here.  Just enter your email and check your inbox!
